Telehealth vs In-Person Weight Loss Care in Illinois

You can get medical weight loss care by secure video visit or in a clinic. Both can work well; the right fit depends on your health, your schedule and what you need examined in person.

Important safety information. This page is general education, not medical advice. Only a licensed clinician who knows your history can decide whether a medication is right for you. Do not start, stop or change a prescription without talking to your clinician. If you have severe abdominal pain, trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or thoughts of harming yourself, seek emergency care or call 988.

What Telehealth Does Well

Telehealth makes regular follow-up easier, which matters because weight management is a long-term effort. At TeleSlim Clinic, an Illinois patient meets with a physician by secure video, and follow-up visits are monthly.

When In-Person Care May Be Better

You may need in-person care if you have symptoms that need a physical exam, if your clinician wants tests done on site, or if you are being considered for a procedure. Weight loss surgery requires an in-person surgical evaluation; see our medication vs surgery guide.

Cost

Fees and coverage vary. See our pricing and plans page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a video visit as good as an in-person visit?

For many weight management needs, yes, especially for counseling, medication review and follow-up. Some situations need an in-person exam.

Can I get a prescription through telehealth?

Prescribing is up to the clinician after reviewing your history. Not everyone is a candidate.

How TeleSlim Clinic Can Help

A TeleSlim Clinic physician can review your health history and goals by secure video visit and discuss whether prescription weight loss treatment is appropriate for you. Prescribing is always at the clinician's discretion, and not every medication is right for every person. See our Cost & Insurance guides and Illinois locations.

Cost & Insurance guides

TeleSlim Clinic visits are self-pay, and we do not bill insurance for our own services. We do handle prior authorization for your medication, provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement, and send your medication and lab orders to the pharmacy or lab you choose, where your insurance can be used. We do not see patients with Medicare.
