Digestive side effects are the most common reason people struggle early on a GLP-1. These everyday strategies may help, and your provider can adjust your plan.
Nausea, constipation, diarrhea, and reflux are common with GLP-1 medications, especially when starting or increasing a dose. For many people they ease over time, and simple habits may help.
If you feel nauseated
- Eat smaller meals more slowly and stop at the first sign of fullness.
- Limit greasy, fried, and very sugary foods.
- Try bland options such as crackers, broth, or yogurt.
- Sip fluids through the day rather than large amounts at once.
- Avoid lying down right after eating.
If you are constipated
- Increase fiber gradually with vegetables, fruit, beans, and whole grains.
- Drink enough fluids, and add gentle daily movement.
- Ask your provider or pharmacist before adding a laxative or supplement.
If you have diarrhea or reflux
Track which foods seem to trigger symptoms and share the pattern with your provider. Smaller portions and earlier dinners may help reflux.
When to seek prompt care
Contact a provider, or seek urgent care, for severe or persistent abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, signs of dehydration, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or an allergic reaction. The Wegovy and Zepbound labels list warnings, including pancreatitis and gallbladder problems.
Your provider can adjust the plan
Do not change your dose on your own. At TeleSlimClinic.com, follow-up video visits let your provider review side effects and adjust your plan. Compounded drugs are not part of our program. See our FAQs for more.
